The base vehicle for Thoma's rig is a 2007 Toyota fj cruiser.
His previous vehicle was set up for overland/expedition Travel
so he wanted to keep the same idea's with the fj. First on the
was an OME 3"lift with heavy springs on all four corners.
Next was a set of new shoes in the form of 33x12.50x17
pro comp extreme MT's.
For reliability reasons the engine was left in the stock
configuration, with the exception of dual batteries
and a soon to be installed snorkel.
Thomas decided to build his own front and rear bumpers
along with his light bar. He decided to go with the pre-runner
style to keep the weight down knowing he would be carrying
alot of gear while on his trip's. The interior was then outfitted
with numerous lights and power points for additional
upgrades at a later point.
Down the road he plans on installing a complete communications
system. Currently he is running with just a CB but plans on
installing a Ham unit along with a lowrance 540 and a laptop
to download pictures and keep a daily log of trips and activities
The list of future mods is long and costly. He say his next big
will be a winch and then continue down his list.
